Colloidal Fe nanoparticles supported on SiO 2 , MgO, Si 3 N 4 , and MgAl 2 O 4 were studied for CH 4 decomposition. Support nature dictated Fe stability and CNT growth. MgAl 2 O 4 enabled highest activity via base/tip growth, forming CO 2 -free H 2 and carbon nanostructures.
