Infinity Sample Holder

True modularity, stability and user-friendliness

The Infinity Sample Holder is a crucial component of both the Climate Infinity and Stream Infinity systems, responsible for delivering controlled heating and biasing signals to your sample. Importantly, it also channels mixed gases or liquids from the supply system to the sealed Nano-Reactor or Nano-Cell within the TEM vacuum column. Fabricated with the highest precision and top-quality materials, it fits your microscope goniometer perfectly and ensures optimal mechanical stability. Moreover, its modular design allows for easy cleaning and replacement of each vacuum component, ensuring contamination-free experiments and future-proof upgradability.

Discover its many innovative features

01

Better structure characterization

The tip of the holder has been redesigned to expand the alpha tilt range of the sample. This provides greater flexibility in orienting the sample towards particular crystallographic planes or directions and maximizes the X-ray collection efficiency. This reduces the time needed for EDS scans for side-entry detectors. The increased X-ray collection angle of the new tip and the ability to flip the tip together further enhance the EDS performance.

02

Clean, complementary & cross-platform experiments

The Infinity Sample Holder's modular design allows for easy removal of the tip, tubing and manual valves, facilitating on-site cleaning or component replacement. This helps to maintain a clean and contamination-free environment, which is critical for reliable experimental results. The holder tip has a universal design that fits both JEOL and Thermo Fisher Scientific (TFS) TEMs, which have different, complementary functionalities. Additionally, the assembled tip, containing a Nano-Reactor and comprising electrical contacts, represents a cartridge with a sample. This cartridge can be used for cross-platform characterization for SEM or beamline setups to collect complementary results.

Easily shift between STEM and TEM mode

The Infinity holder features a new electrical contact method and flexible tubing that can be moved together with the tip. As a result, the new tip can be flipped along the holder axis by 180 degrees, changing the position of the sample from the top (default) to the bottom, while keeping the focus point virtually the same and maintaining electrical contact with the chip. This grants you the freedom to flawlessly switch between STEM or TEM mode while maintaining the microscope's optimal resolution performance. Importantly, you can switch between both imaging modes within a matter of seconds and without the need to disassemble the tip.

Add light with Infinity LightOptional add-on

A new optomechanical tip routes an optical fibre through the holder to the sample window, so light joins the gas or liquid, heating and biasing stimuli you already control. Existing Infinity holders can be upgraded to it without compromising system performance.

Perform gas and liquid experiments with the same holder

The new Climate Infinity holder is a versatile solution for in situ gas and liquid experiments. Compatible with Nano-Chips for both research types, it supports various tubing and O-ring options which can be chosen based on the experiment type. Simply select the appropriate configuration of the chips and connect the required Gas Supply System (GSS) or Liquid Supply System (LSS). As a universal holder, it can be upgraded from a gas to a liquid option, or vice versa. Aside from the dedicated chips and supply system, the upgrade includes a specific holder set with a dedicated tip, tubing, and O-rings to prevent cross-contamination between gas and liquid experiments.
